Review of Sierra Design sleeping bag for children

Sleeping bag:

Sierra Design Dragon Fly Children Sleeping Bag

For our recent car camping trip to Tucson (Read story) we brought the Sierra Designs Dragonfly 20 Degree Girl's Youth Three-Season Synthetic Sleeping Bag along.  It is such a cute and functional sleeping bag that my daughter actually used it. Usually she refuses to keep blankets or covers on, kicking them off frequently in the night. Because of this we usually have to swaddle her in layer upon layer of clothing when we sleep in a tent. This time, for the most part she was content to stay in her sleeping bag where she stayed cozy and warm.

Sierra Designs Dragonfly 20 Degree Sleeping Bag has an integrated pillow, a blanket or doll holding mesh compartment, a small zip pocket for your child’s head lamp or other necessities, an integrated stuff sack and a flowery pattern inside.  It is baby blue. Overall, I think that the bag is extremely well designed with child users in mind. It is obvious that Sierra Designs knows sleeping bag construction and has applied what they know from adult bags to this child’s bag.  All of the features are functional and the integrated pillow and stuff sac were pleasant surprises.

We used it through some very cold desert nights and Cora did not wake up cold once.  The construction of this bag is of very high quality and will last for many years.  Not just until my daughter grows out of it, but probably for her children as well.

The bag is kind of bulky so I don’t see myself brining it along on a backpacking trip unless my daughter would be old enough to carry it herself.

Specs: 2.2 pounds, 20 degree, synthetic, fits up to five feet.$80

I highly recommend this bag if you are serious about the outdoors.
