It is so important to be well fed on outdoor expeditions.  That is why I try to look around for food that travels well, that is light and enticing for the whole family.  Three foods that have accompanied us on numerous outdoor expeditions are:

Mountain House dehydrated foods: They offer a variety of different serving options that are sure to fit your needs.  I find that the entrée that serves 2 is a good portion for our family of three if you supplement with other sides.  I have tried Beef Stroganoff with Noodles and Chicken with rice which were both good and my two year old ate them.

Sharkies: These are amazing organic energy sports chews.   They resemble the fruit chews that are sold in grocery stores for children's lunch boxes but they provide electrolytes.  My family loves to suck on something during long hard hikes and these provide good healthy energy.  They can be added to your regular lunches for a fun treat.

Redhead Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon 7.5oz. can This is decadence in a can.  Sustainably caught in Alaska’s pristine waters, this salmon is amazing and delivers 350 calories and 39 grams of protein and 3.5 g of fat.  It is 7.5 oz that are worth carrying around. Eat it cowboy style right out of the can.  This food can be used at home too and it comes with some yummy recipes.
