Up one levelWenger Soft Touch Swiss Clipper
Gear review of the Wenger Soft Touch Swiss Clipper
The Soft Touch Clipper has an ergonomic and neoprene coating that offers a smooth and comfortable grip. It includes a stainless steel nail clipper, and seven other functions: scissor, nail file and nail cleaner, toothpick, tweezers, a key ring and a pen blade. It comes with a lifetime warranty and is made in Switzerland.
The soft touch clipper is not an outdoor adventure tool, but is a great addition to your key chain. The nail clippers are safe for childrens little nails. It is always useful to have tweezers and a little knife always at hands reach.
Julbo Sunglasses
Gear review of Julbo sunglasses for infants and children.
Julbo USA has sunglasses and goggles for the whole family. Outdoorbaby.net tested out the Looping (0-2 yrs), Bubble (3-8 yrs)
and the (Kitty 6-10 yrs). All of Julbo sunglasses, including their children line, is made to keep your eyes healthy and protected. They offer full UV protection, ease of fit, full eye coverage and built to be flexible and strong under impact. All of the pairs we have tested stay on the wearer even while in motion and head being tilted or goes upside down.
The Looping sunglasses by Julbo are easy to put on your baby's face since they are reversible. The only down side is that they have a few small plastic parts that could make some parents nervous since babies often pull the glasses of their face and start chewing. We left our children to chew away and no parts ever fell off. They come with a strap.
The Bubble sunglasses by Julbo are wrap arounds that come in a variety of colors. Our three 1/2 year old tester always insists on wearing her sunglasses
now. Not only does she look good in the glasses, but many teenagers
comment on the coolness of the shades! A great bonus point.
The Kitty sunglasses by Julbo are a stylish version of the wrap around glasses.
Julbo sunglasses are by far the best sunglasses we have tested here at OutdoorBaby.net
Loki
Gear Review of Loki Backlava
LOKI is a Grand Junction, Colorado Based outdoor Clothing company. It was started by two brothers and was also featured in the New York Times a few year ago.
Loki offers a large selection of adult clothing and a few children options, that have features not found in most clothing.
We tested out there children Backlava. It is made of regular fleece and has a draw string. Unlike other backlavas it has more of a tranditional looking hat on the top. Other than that it behaved just like any other baklava
Glacier Mittens:
Gear Review of Molehill children Glacier mittens.
These Glacier Mittens by Molehill come in three different colors. They are waterproof and fleece lined. The mittens go up 1/4 up the arm and close with a velcro and elastic band.
Over all we feel like they do provide warmth and many hours of outdoor play for children. These mittens stay on and keep snow off of little hands. It takes quite a long time to get them wet. The Glacier mittens come in sizes that are very large for the mentioned age, so your child will grow into them. This can be a disadvantage to keep children motivated to keep mittens on since they lower dexterity. .
Full Tilt Adjustable ski boot for children
This product review was written by Kayo Ogilby. He is the head coach of the CRMS Telemark Team and Co-Founder of the Portillo Big Mountain Telemark Camp.
1. How easy are they to get on?
These boots are VERY easy to get on. They slide right on. No tears or struggles. Also easy to arrange the tounge and buckle.
2. Are they comfortable?
Yes. My daughter is quite happy in them for hours. More so than other pairs we have tried
3. Are they warm?
Yes. They seem to be great. No complaints on cold days.
Maybe there is a fourth:
4. Do they have pink?
Black boots with subtle pink accents! This is the one aspect of the boot that has received critique from my four year old girl: They could have more pink from her perspective.
Obviously, these boots also come in 'boy' friendly colors, so they don't have pink. These boots come in two sizes: Small 11-2 and Large 3-8 children.
If you are looking to save money in the long run this pair of boots enables you to purchase one pair of boot for your child that will last more than one ski season. Next, year we will publish a follow up on how well these boots performed when adjusted to a bigger size.

Backpacks by Lucky Bums
Here is our gear review of two backpacks by Lucky Bums
We tested out two Lucky Bums backapck. They are both made with high quality material and were durable.
Snowsport 15: This backpack comes in Pink or Blue. It would fit a school age child. It is hydration pack compatible. Capacity is 20 liters and comes with a safety whistle, sternum buckle and easy carrying system. Many pockets, mesh pockets and cinch cords to organize and stuff gear. The bag is adorned with reflective tape for added safety.
Pros: The back of the pack is soft and made with a breathable foam/ mesh combination. The backpack can be used for school or on the trail. Can strap toddler skis onto it. Good looking design
Cons: Does not come with a hydration pack, No padded hip belt. Lucky Bum does not offer a backpack that could fit a smaller child.
Lucky Bug Toddler Pack: These adorable little packs will enchant your toddler as they look just like mommy or daddy walking about with 1 liter of prized possessions.
Pros: Cute, quality material and craftmanship, long lasting, adjustable straps
Con: Quite small so a larger toddler will not be satisfied with the space available.
Lucky Bums Plastic Training Skis Gear Review
Product Review of Lucky Bums training skis with Poles for 1 1/2 to 4 year olds
These Lucky Bums skis are sold for $45. They enable very young children to accompany their parents on Nordic ski days, while keeping their feet warm inside their snow boots. The skis have strap bindings that fit snow boots size 5-11. The heals are free like regular cross country skis.
We have tried this pair and another similar pair made by another company and we found both to be similar. We liked that they are low cost and they enabled us to go skiing with very young kids. Because they are made of plastic they don’t’ glide very well so we believe it is a bit much to call them training skis. Your child ends up walking with skis on their feet more than gliding. Our testers could go down little hills and get the feel of gliding. Since the skis accommodate ski boots your child’s feet can stay warm, more stable than regular Nordic boots, and no need to buy another piece a gear. We are glad we discovered these skis for children. The straps are a little long and you need to figure out a place to tuck them in while your child skis or the straps will go under the ski. The positive aspect of these skis is that they come with mini poles, although not that useful, our testers enjoyed having poles like their parents and could use them at times to stand back up when they fell down.
Boot Tote by Lucky Bums
Gear Review of Lucky Bums
The Lucky Bums boot tote is a simple and cheap accessory that keeps your ski boots together and enable you to carry ski boots with ease. Better yet, your child can carry their own boot by holding the smooth recycled wood handle.
We liked this simple device and it came handy on the mountain when having to carry a lot of gear. Our young daughter was able to lug her boots for a short while while using this Lucky Bums boot tote.
All Lucky Bums merchandise comes with a limited life time warranty.
Tip Clip Review
Product Review of Lucky Bums Tip Clip
Lucky Bums has a variety of Learn To Ski products that will help your children feel confident on the slops and will help you to guide them in the process of learning to ski.
For $10 this tip clip will help your child learn how to keep their ski tips together and to glide down in a 'Pizza'. There are a few different products out there to teach this skill. The Lucky Bums Tip Clip works well. They attach with velcro and a clip. The only downfall is that when snow gets jammed in the clip it is hard to open again and you need to take your gloves off.
Jockey Natural: Bamboo
Product Review of Jockey Natural underwear with Bamboo
Jockey Natural launched a line of underwear with bamboo. We were excited to try them out because Bamboo acts similar to synthetic fabrics in the outdoors, but of course is natural. Also, we have a pair of long underwear from a no longer existing company, that is made out of Bamboo and we love its softness and performance in the oudoors.
Jockey Natural sent us underwear and camisoles as gear review. Each product has a small amount of bamboo, therefore did not provide the softness that we would of liked. They are fabricated with a tretch material and provide a good fit when in motion and hugs the body nicely without the use of enoying rubberbands that can rub against the skin. The camisoles could have been much longer so that you have more coverage when lifting your arms or to tuck inside pants. Jockey Natural underwear did not retain moisture which is a plus in the outdoors.
Jockey Kids
Product Review of Jockey Kids Underwear
Jockey kids contacted me a while back to attend a Jockey Kids Underwear fashion show. Yeah, I know it sounds kind of funny. Of course I could not go to the event in New York. It is not like they were going to fly and dine me, to go see pairs of boxers and training bras, so instead they sent me a whole slew of underwear for my mini testers to try out.
We tested out boxers, briefs, girl underpants, t-shirts, training bras and camisoles. All were made of soft cotton and had simple designs and colors. I was refreshed not to see sterotypical cartoon characters or sports figures on them. They were rated as comfortable but the elastic waists still itched some users. The designs could have been more modern and funky.
Overall, these are good pairs of undergarment for children, that would be good for traveling, but not so for long outdoor activities since they are made from cotton.
Family Field Guide Series
This series of four books published by BearBop Press ( Basalt, Colorado) , introduces you family to birds, insects, mammals, and plants found in the Rocky Mountains.
In each Family Field Guide volume many different species are introduced in clear detail. Pictures, descriptions, symbols and diagrams are printed on one page to fully educated you about each new interest.
Pros: Very detailed and interesting for any member of your family, clear pictures, choices of items to feature are very much in tuned with children's interest. A fun fact always grabs someones attention and makes these books a great addition to outdoor explorations.
Cons: Four different volumes, therfore too heavy to bring all of them on one excursion, the symbols are a bit hard to remember or understand.
We used these books on different occasions and always could find many of the featured species. Our children wanted to look at them even when we were indoors, to learn more about their environment. Each book has an appendix with great resources that make learning about nature interesting and explains how all of it fits within a large context.
